Your plan’s say

Will my insurance help pay?

Get a specific answer from the plan.

Have the proposed medicine name ready. Ask whether the plan covers it for your reason for treatment and what proof is needed.

The list showing which medicines your plan covers is called its formulary. Your plan must agree to pay beforehand when it requires prior authorization.

Ask about both, then ask for the amount you would pay. Also ask whether the plan pays for the visit with your doctor or other health professional.

Medicare depends on the use.

Part D is Medicare’s insurance for prescription medicines.

As of September 2026, regular Medicare Part D does not cover medicines used for weight loss. [a]

Part D may pay for a medicine used to treat another condition, such as diabetes, even when it will not pay for that medicine for weight loss. [b]

Payment is not guaranteed. Your plan’s list of covered medicines and advance approval rules still apply.

Ask the plan which payment rules apply to the health problem being treated. This is your diagnosis: the name your doctor gives the health problem.

The Bridge has conditions.

The body naturally makes GLP-1, a chemical messenger that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite. Medicines called GLP-1 medicines copy its action.

The Bridge’s start date is July 1, 2026; its last day is December 31, 2027. It pays separately from regular Part D. [c]

Eligibility starts at age 18, with further rules about weight, other health problems, and your Medicare plan. You are excluded from the Bridge for 2026 if Part D has already covered a GLP-1 medicine for you during 2026. [d]

You need a prescription and approval before the program pays. Ask the doctor or other health professional writing your prescription to check which rules apply to you. [d]

Coverage for some uses, such as treating type 2 diabetes, runs through regular Part D rather than the Bridge. [d]

The $50 you pay through the Bridge does not count toward the yearly payment cap for covered Part D medicines. The program offers no extra help with that $50 for people on low incomes. [c]

Only certain medicines and versions, such as tablets or injection pens, qualify. Ask whether the exact medicine and packaging on your prescription are included. [d]

If you have another kind of insurance.

As of September 2026, coverage for online prescribing still depends on the plan and the use; there is no single price that answers every case.

Ask for a written answer about medicine, visits, and tests. If a request is refused, ask the plan what information or review process is available.
